Editing Exercise Project

Our second project was to shoot and get audio of numbers 1 through 10 and then go back and edit everything together so that the video matched the audio. The video won't make sense but it was just a fun beginning exercise for the class. This was a pretty fun project because both Kendra, my partner, and I work at KOMU so we just went around the station and got a little creative to make this video.

Probably the most frustrating part of the project was remembering what audio we had and what video we had. We finally just decided to write everything down so that would make it less confusing. When we went into post production it was the first time I had played around with Final Cut Pro since I'm used to Avid. I picked up Final Cut fairly quickly and I actually prefer it to Avid now.

Music Video Project

Making my music video for comm 3395 was probably my favorite project. I was able to be as creative as I wanted to be since music videos are generally artistic and based on interpretation. I've made several music videos in my life and I've noticed the I do my best editing work whenever I have music with the video. I think that when you have the right song and know what kind of edits to make you can make a video that turns into something extremely moving to yourself and others.

I chose to make a music video with the song "This is your life" by Switchfoot, because I think it asks a lot of really important questions. As corny as it sounds the song makes a lot of sense because it says when we were young we had nothing to loose, but now as we are coming of age we are determining who we are going to be as people for the rest of our lives. This is song is very relatable that's one of the main reasons why I chose it. Below I pasted in the lyrics to the song to give you more of an understanding of what the song is saying. For the video I decided to make it a reflection of my life by inserting videos of me when I was really young (around 5 or so). I tried to reflect the video to what the song was saying while I was editing and I thought I did a fairly good job.

Lyrics:

Yesterday is a wrinkle on your forehead
Yesterday is a promise that you've broken
Don't close your eyes, don't close your eyes
This is your life and today is all you've got now
Yeah, and today is all you'll ever have
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes

This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose

Yesterday is a kid in the corner
Yesterday is dead and over

This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose

Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes

This is your life are you who you want to be
This is your life are you who you want to be, yeah

This is your life, are you who you want to be, who you want to be yeah
This is your life, are you who you want to be (who you want to be)
This is your life, are you who you want to be (who you want to be)
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose

And you had everything to lose

Meechu's Filipino Market Commercial

This commercial I made for an actual store here in Columbia, MO. Their website is Meechu.net if you want to find out more information about them. I like this store because it is family owned and it's as authentic as you can get in the midwest. They have a huge variety of grocery foods that you can find in the Philippines and Maria also caters for special occasions. Keeping tradition alive has always been of huge importance for the Gatica family  who moved to the United States in 1988. Now that their store has been up and running for about 3 years now it has become very well known by the Filipino community in Columbia. My goal is to get the word out about Meechu's so that not just Filipinos can enjoy foods they grew up with but to have people from other cultures try the food as well.

About Me Video

This video was created for my Television Field Production class at MU. It's just a quick look at my life as of right now. You can tell that I'm not exactly used to being ON camera, since I'm much more accustom to being behind the camera. In this video I take you to my house, to see my puppy Lucy, to see my lovely room, to a soccer field, and to KOMU 8. I also had to shoot my partner Li for his about me video. It was a pretty fun because I got to see the things that are important to him. I think by the end we learned a lot about each other and how our cultures differ and how they are similar.

One of the challenges in making Li's video was when we wanted to do a driving scene. I was supposed to sit in the backseat and shoot Li driving for the final scene. He was driving his stick shift jeep, which made it extremely difficult to get a steady shot, but after a few trial runs I was okay with it. I did start to wonder what camera operators actually use in motion pictures and it turns out they use very elaborate tricks to get the shot just right. Sometimes they use a flatbed and other times they use an steady cam attachment for the car, it really all depends on what effect they want.
